Thomas Frank Smith, age 82, of Woodstock, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
He was born September 2, 1939, in Chicago, IL to parents Anthony Frank Smith and Josephine Roaslie Puleo.
Thomas married Carol Ann Hugar, in Chicago, on October 14, 1973.
Thomas is survived by nine children Laura Smith, Brian Smith, Christopher (Kim) Smith, Kevin (Jessica) Smith, Elizabeth (Christopher) Steffens, Keriann Smith, Paul Smith, Mark Smith, Katy Smith, and grandchildren Kayalia, Connor, Alexander, Angelika, Brianna, Elijah, Addison, Natalea, Ethan, Daniel, Charlie IV, Nora, Rosalia, Olivia, Vivian, great grandson Milo, siblings Marilyn Smith and George Smith retired USGT, USMC, and cousins Joyann, Rosalie, and Sam.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Ann Smith, parents Anthony Smith and Josephine Wach, and son Robert Smith.
Thomas was a decorated Marine. During his six years of active service from 1962 to 1968 he fought in three tours of Vietnam and was the recipient of the silver star, national defense medal, bronze star, Marine Corps good conduct medal, selected Marine Corps reserve medal, and two purple heart medals for injuries suffered in combat.
Thomas was an entrepreneur who owned a recruiting business specializing in placing veterans in careers after their service. He was a dedicated husband and proud father of ten children. Thomas enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, boating and gardening. He was also a skilled fisherman.
A visitation will be held from 12- 2 P.M on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Saunders Funeral Home & Crematory, 1745 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock, IL 60098. Services will follow, officiated by Deacon Hans Rokus.
