Stephen (Steve) Henry Williams

Stephen Henry Williams, 64, of Woodstock, IL passed away peacefully at home on July 10th, 2021, after many years of ill health and suffering.

Steve was born on June 10th, 1957, in Stratford upon Avon, England. After finishing his O'Levels at Countesthorpe Community College in Leicester he decided to follow his father's footsteps and at the age of 16 joined the British Army. He served in Northern Ireland, Germany, and Canada and travelled to New Zealand for training. He was a military accountant and on leaving the army in 1988 as a staff Sergeant, he moved to the role of computer programmer/project manager working at Lloyds Bank in London and later at Motorola in Basingstoke.  In 1998 the opportunity came up to work for Motorola in Libertyville and so he moved to the US.

He married Valerie Parsons in July of 1988 and they have one son Gareth.

He loved military history, painting miniature figures, playing sports including rugby, and field hockey, supporting his football(Soccer) team Leicester City, and the American Football team the Chicago Bears, where until his health changed, he was a season ticket holder.  He also ran marathons and completed the London Marathon three times, once with only 10 days notice.

Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years Valerie, and his son Gareth, and his siblings David Williams, Mark Williams, Karen (Gary) Malyon, and Samantha Williams, and many nephews and nieces and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents Allan and Hilda Williams, and his nephew Jake Williams.

The family would like to thank Advocate Hospice for their care in his finals few weeks of life.

He asks to be remembered not by sadness but with a smile and those of you who knew him, by his bad jokes.

The memorial gathering will be 10 – 11 AM Sat., Aug. 14 at First United Methodist Church, 201 W. South St., Woodstock, IL 60098.  The memorial service will follow at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the Scout Troop 153 of Woodstock for use in their Eagle Scout projects, specifically at the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock.  Funds can be paid to FUMC Woodstock and indicate for use for Steve’s Memorial Fund.  You may mail funds to First United Methodist Church, 201 W.
