It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sidney Jabbar Cox on August 5, 2025, at the age of 53.
Jabbar was born on April 17, 1972, in Kalamazoo, MI, the youngest of Theodore and Helen (Hooker) Cox’s children.
He grew up in Michigan, a loyal and devoted Detroit Lions fan, and moved to Illinois during his teen years. After graduating from Dundee-Crown High School, Jabbar attended Elgin Community College and kickstarted his working career. He officially launched his clothing side business Peep Game Gear in 1995 and was proud of his achievements. Jabbar was a skillful painter and contractor, and his talents didn’t stop there – he was proficient in playing pool, darts, and bags. He loved to gamble and enjoyed playing slot machines. He appreciated good meals and a good beverage and loved cooking and grilling out. Jabbar also loved to play basketball and go fishing. Jabbar loved having dogs and training them, especially pit bulls. He liked always having one for his sidekick. More than anything, Jabbar treasured time spent with his family. His sons were his pride and joy, and he was thrilled when his granddaughter was born. Jabbar was full of love and zest for life. He loved to have fun and stir the pot without getting into too much mischief. He was not one to hold back and would freely speak his mind. Jabbar made sure those he loved knew that and he will be remembered for the kind, generous, funny, loving man he was.
Jabbar is survived by his loving partner Stephanie Smith; cherished sons London (Courtney Kiolbassa) Cox, Kalin (Emily) Cox, and Braxton (Esperanza Correa) Cox; his mother Helen; siblings Vincent (Ruth) Hodge, Marcia Cox, Troy (Jackie) Cox, and Terrance Cox; bonus brother/ cousin Kwame Hooker; his granddaughter Hazel who he absolutely adored; and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father Theodore Cox.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 P M with a funeral service at 6:30 PM on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Saunders Funeral Home & Crematory, 1745 S. Eastwood Dr., Woodstock, IL 60098.
