Shirley Anita Borchardt, 91, of Wonder Lake, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Woodstock, Illinois.
Shirley was born on June 25, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Marie (Miller) and Frank Richardsen. She graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago, Class of 1952.
Shirley met the love of her life, Carl Borchardt Jr., while growing up in Chicago, and the couple was united in marriage on February 6, 1954, after a five-year courtship. They began their life together at a young age and shared nearly 69 years of marriage before Carl’s passing.
Shirley made her home in Wonder Lake for almost 67 years, where she devoted herself to her family and community. She was a talented baker and seamstress, enjoyed ceramics, and took great pride in running a “tight ship” while raising her husband and five sons. Shirley and Carl were actively involved in the Caats Car Club and belonged to a dance club. Shirley was actively involved in several organizations, including 4-H, and TOPS Club where she formed lasting friendships and contributed her time and energy.
She is survived by her five sons: Jeffery (Mary), Robin (Sherry), Randal (Shannon), Todd (Jeanne), and Keith (Lisa) Borchardt; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Carl Borchardt Jr.; and her infant son, Frankie Steven.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the 12:30 PM funeral service on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Saunders Funeral Home & Crematory, 1745 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock, Illinois. Interment will follow at McHenry County Memorial Park.
Shirley will be remembered for her strength, dedication to her family, and the love she shared with all who knew her. She is at peace now, reunited with the ones she held in her heart.
