Richard Sweeney Obituary

Richard T. Sweeney, age 85, of Woodstock, Illinois, passed on Saturday, January 7, 2023, with loved ones by his side. He was born on May 3, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St.Tarcissus Catholic Elementary School and graduated in 1955 from St. George Catholic High School, After moving to Woodstock in 1980, he worked at Cotter Distribution Center and Motorola in Harvard, until his retirement in 2002. 

Richard is survived by his life partner of 38 years Barbara Murray, and her children, Michael Murray Jr. (Jen) and daughter Marcia Kalisik (James), daughter-in-law Deb Donofrio, grandchildren Jaclyn, Trevor, Jennifer, Morgan and Joseph Sweeney and great grandson Dacen Sweeney. He was also a special grandfather to Jacob Kalisik. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Esther Sweeney, two brothers, Larry and Kenny, and his two sons, Thomas and Michael. 

Richard's hobbies included golfing and creating his beautiful yard where he spent many hours enjoying his animals. One of his greatest pleasures was following Jacob in his many sports activities. In later years, his special little girls, Brooklyn and Charlotte Ryan, filled his days with so much happiness. 

A special thank-you to the nurses at Hearthstone Nursing Home and Journey Care Hospice Caregivers for their superb care and concerns given to Richard during his final days. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

Memorials may be made to Journey Care Hospice or the American Heart Association.
