John Stauss Sr. Obituary

John “Jack” Charles Stauss Sr., 79, of Harvard died Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Palm Harbor, Florida.

He was born January 17, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Walter and Ethel (Valiant) Stauss.  He married the love of his life, Vimy Louise Burtelson, on May 1, 1971 in Chicago.

For many years Jack was owner of Action Marking Products Company which produced rubber stamps and other marking devices.  Jack retired from Action in 2015 after 53 years.

Jack served his country in the United States Army from 1964 - 1966 during the Vietnam conflict and was honorably discharged. Jack received the National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and the designation of expert with the M-14 rifle.

Jack had many interests and hobbies and he just enjoyed life. He enjoyed camping and traveling, and spent time on memorable trips with his brothers.  He enjoyed being outdoors, feeding the birds, and tending to the garden and farm.  Jack also had a fondness for games, puzzles, bingo, and bowling, as well as an interest in music and guns.  Jack was not fond of squirrels.

Serving God and his family were most important to Jack.  He loved his church family at Grace Fellowship Church where he served on the church board as a deacon and elder for nearly 20 years. He also volunteered for the Awana Ministry for almost 50 years.  Jack always made a point to spend time with his family and attend any function his grandchildren were involved in.

He is survived by his sons John (Rachel) Stauss of West Dundee, Joel (Dawn) Stauss of Hebron, and Soren Stauss of Chicago, four grandchildren Carissa (Mike) Vazquez, Austin Stauss, Isabella Stauss, and Jake Stauss, brothers Richard (Nona) Stauss of Woodstock, Ronald (Elaine) Stauss of Yoder, IN, and sister-in-law Tracy Langeslay of Santa Barbara, CA. as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Vimy Stauss, parents Walter and Ethel Stauss, and brother James Stauss.
